Marine Reserve BioBlitz

WHAT? A BioBlitz is an intensive survey of a defined area on a single day with the goal of identifying all the species to be found in that area at one time – it is a snapshot of biodiversity. Come explore Oregon’s coastal waters while helping local scientists survey the species of the region! HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED? Get started on iNaturalist now: https://www.inaturalist.org/ This is a useful tool (for smartphones) which enables any observer of the natural world, of any skill level, to contribute information to a vast national database. Cape Cove Beach: Marine Debris Monitoring on the Oregon Coast

Join us on the beach for a marine debris cleanup at Cape Cove Beach. This project is great for anyone who would like to give 1-2 hours of their time, contribute to science and clean up beaches touching Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and Protected Areas. Please meet at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center and walk down to the beach from there. The path is mostly paved, but the gravel trail to beach access includes stairs. Sturdy shoes are recommended. We will survey 100 yards of Cape Cove Beach. This includes flat sandy beach, wood debris, cobble rocks and lava rock. Most of the debris we find is located in the rocky and woody areas. After the survey, we will collect our finds, sort and document. The plastic items are kept for re-use in various projects. Ronda & Troy, the new owners are excited to become a member of the Florence community and are looking forward to meeting you all! Ronda brings over 25 year’s experience working with people with memory loss and Troy is a plumbing contractor. Together they bring a nice balance to serve this population and their loved ones. The 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field will be held at Hayward Field on June 19–28, 2020. And the IAAF World Championships will be coming to Oregon Friday, August 6 through Sunday, August 15, 2021! The IAAF World Championships, held every two years, will be the largest sporting event in the world in 2021, with nearly 2,000 participants representing as many as 214 different countries. Kari Westlund, President & CEO, Travel Lane County and Sasha Spencer-Atwood, Director of External Affairs, TrackTown USA will be on hand to provide event overviews and field questions. The agenda includes time for open discussion on ways to make the most of hosting these extraordinary events. Lunch is available for $14.
