WURSTFEST – FLORENCE ELKS FUNDRAISER FOR VOCATIONAL EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

“WURSTFEST - 2019”. A Bavarian Folk Festival will be held at the Florence Elks Lodge on Saturday, February 23rd, to raise funds for Vocational Educational Scholarships. The “Best” WURSTFEST on the Oregon Coast, will have a genuine Bavarian atmosphere, featuring ‘live’ German Folk Music and Dancers and, of course, authentic German Food and Beer. The Festivities will begin at 11:00am, inside the Elks Lodge,1686 12th St., Florence, Oregon, and continue until around 5:00pm. Bring the whole family and really enjoy this ‘fun filled’ event. Join us and help the Elks support Vocational Education. All proceeds will go to the Elks Vocational Education Scholarship Fund. Meet ‘Old Friends You’ve Never Seen Before’. Come to see Dave Burkett discussion on Oregon's connection to the Civil War “While none of the battles from the war between the states took place here in Oregon, that doesn’t mean Oregon didn’t feel the impacts from that war,” stated Executive Director Cal Applebee recently. “When the Civil War started in 1861, Oregon was a fledgling state, having attained statehood only two years earlier. The United States Army already had considerable presence in Oregon, but primarily because of conflicts between the growing number of settlers who were newcomers, and the multiple Native American tribes around the state, who had been here first. As the troop demands for the Civil War increased, the North began withdrawing federal troops to feed that need.”  Burkett will share history on this element as well as some of the more personal connections between Oregon and several Civil War personalities. Sit together, family-style, and be served the B&B’s famous elegant 7 Course Brunch.  The recipes for the 7 Course Brunch are from the Lighthouse Breakfast Cookbook and based on a long standing tradition created by the founders of the Bed and Breakfast which is served daily to overnight guests.  Each course is carefully presented by your server who will tell you about the local sourcing of the ingredients and interesting stories that inspired the recipe.  After brunch a docent-led Historic Home Tour will take place, which not only includes a tour of the first floor, but a rare opportunity to tour the second level of the lightkeeper’s home, which is graced with six beautifully decorated guest rooms, baths and unbelievable views. Springtime brings a Spring Tea and Equinox Hike the Heceta Lighthouse B&B! The culinary team will serve a delectable selection of fruit, sandwiches, desserts, and stash teas amidst fresh flowers and beautiful table settings in the main dining room and parlors. Relax and enjoy the lightkeeper’s home, fresh air on the porch overlooking the sea and a brief history talk and visit to the Gift Shop will be available for those who are interested. Feeling adventurous?  An hour-long Spring Equinox hike will be led by a local guide at 4pm after the Spring tea on trails around Heceta Head Lightstation at 4pm after the Spring tea.  Meet in the culinary gardens behind the Keeper's Home at 3:50pm.  This will be a beginner-to-moderate level hike. Heceta Lightstation’s 125th Birthday Celebration!

Heceta Head Lightstation is 125 years old! Join us on March 30th from 4 to 7 pm to celebrate the Heceta Head Lighthouse shining its light every day upon the Oregon Coastline. Birthday Party sponsors will be providing drinks and cupcakes. Dedicated vendors will donate hot dogs and popcorn!  Local musicians will perform at the historic Keeper’s House. State Park and USFS interpretive docents will be giving tours of the lighthouse and light keeper’s home, and informative talks about this gorgeous coast line. Bring your camera and good friends to commemorate this fun community supported family event.  The Gift Shop will also be open and newly stocked with amazing souvenirs and informative books and videos.  Bring your lighthouse passports to be stamped! The Wall That Heals

Spruce Point Assist Living and Memory Care has the honor of bringing the Wall that heals, to Florence, Oregon. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is one of the most visited memorials in our nation’s capital, with nearly 5.3 million visitors each year. However, many Americans have not been able to visit what has become known to many as “The Wall.” VVMF, the nonprofit organization that built The Wall in 1982, wants to give all veterans and their family members across America an opportunity to see the Memorial. The Healing Wall will be on display, April 4rd through April 7th at the Siuslaw High School, and will be manned 24 hours a day by volunteers, who can help find names of solider you may be looking for and provide educational information.  The Healing Wall will be escorted in by  military bikers through Florence to the High School on the 2nd of April.

Saturday, April 6 -  4-6 pm Heceta Lighthouse B&B is reserving the Lightkeeper's Home for an Exclusive Wedding Showcase.  Meet the Wedding Vendors who provide beautiful services for the Lightstation weddings and sample appetizers provided by the B&B culinary team.  Discuss customizable wedding package options with our professional team.  See the elegantly appointed rooms and explore the breathtaking grounds. Only 15 couples per evening are invited.  If you would like to be one of them, please email misty@hecetalighthouse.com. Book a room for the night to enhance the experience.
