Noon Forum: Find the Fun, Save Some Time and Get the Word Out
February 8, 2018 @ 11:45 AM - 1:00 PM
You already know that “earned media”—all those times you or your business are in the news for events you’re hosting or initiatives you’re leading—are worth their weight in gold. But how can you scrape together the time to send out all those press releases that get you in the news? And how do you pick a date for your event that won’t conflict with some other community event? And when work is over for the day, how can you get the inside scoop on other community gatherings that might interest you and your family and friends?
RiverCal.org is the answer to all of your questions.
This community calendar is free and open for anyone to use—no membership required—and there is no approval or wait time to post your event. It serves the greater Siuslaw region, from Dunes City, through Florence and Mapleton, and up to Swisshome and Deadwood. Another popular feature of RiverCal.org is the ability to send press releases to the local media—all with one click of a button. RiverCal currently imports several popular calendars directly, including the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce and the Siuslaw School District, into the RiverCal community calendar, and it also includes a linked list of other regional calendars to assist with event planning. RiverCal.org is a service of Siuslaw Vision and is the primary portal for information on Vision projects.
The program will also include a brief history of the Siuslaw Vision, which is a community-led, regional effort to improve quality of life for local residents. The Vision focuses on six spheres of life in our region: Working People (Jobs), Happy People (Health & Human Services), Educated People (Lifelong Learning), Connected People (Public Services & Infrastructure), Creative People (the Arts), and Active People (the Outdoors & Recreation). Multiple projects are underway within each of these spheres that connect volunteers, businesses and organizations of every kind for our common good.
