GOIN’ WITH THE FLO— 50+ VINTAGE TRAILERS RETURN TO FLORENCE THIS WEEKEND

 Florence is about to roll-retro for the second annual “Goin’ with the Flo Vintage Trailer Rally.” More than 50 kitschy-campy travel trailers will be staged for public viewing, free, at the Port of Siuslaw Campground in Old Town Florence beginning Saturday, October 19, from noon to 3:00 p.m. The event is all about sharing about and preserving the nostalgic road-tripping vacation era of the 1950s and 60s. Most of the trailers are restored to perfection, some will be in the restoration process, and some will be towed by cool classic vehicles from the trailer’s same era. Solarity Puppetry, a solar-powered literary vintage caravan featuring puppet shows, will present several times throughout the event. Applications for the 113th Rhododendron Court are now available through Siuslaw and Mapleton schools, the Florence Visitor Center and the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce. DOWNLOAD APPLICATION HERE: Senior Application and Junior Application. The Senior Court is open to high school senior girls and boys who exhibit exceptional character and are Siuslaw region residents. Queen Rhododendra and her Junior and Senior Princess Courts as well as the King of the Coast and his Senior Prince Court will reign over the 2020 Rhododendron Festival, act as the goodwill ambassadors for this event and make many promotional appearances between the start of the year and the annual Rhody Festival in May. Artwork from the Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA) is featured in the Florence Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center lobby, 290 Highway 101, throughout the month of September. “We love the diversity of art provided this month by the Florence Regional Arts Alliance,” says the Chamber’s executive director Bettina Hannigan. “FRAA has become such an essential and dynamic part of the community and their efforts to advance tourism through the promotion of the arts is a tremendous compliment to the Chamber’s work in the region.” FRAA chose the theme of “Coastal Critters” for their September exhibit, with artwork reflective of Florence’s diverse coastal life. Florence is revving-up for the 12th Annual Invitational Rods ’N Rhodies Invitational Car Show and 7th Annual Communitywide Garage Sale September 13-15. “It’s a high-octane weekend at a spectacular time of year here in Florence,” says Florence Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Bettina Hannigan. “Up to 125 of the west coast’s best high-end hot rods and custom cruisers from 1976 and earlier will be on hand. Some are valued in the range of $250,000 and will exhibit at various show-and-shine locations including a closed-off Bay Street along the river in Historic Old Town Florence.” The main event takes place Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Bay Street in Old Town. BACKSTREET GALLERY HEADLINES JUNE ART EXHIBIT AT CHAMBER

Backstreet Gallery, a co-op of 24 local artists in Florence, is this month’s featured local exhibitor at the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce’s Visitors’ Center, 290 Highway 101. Visitors to the exhibit will get to see more than a dozen pieces within a theme of “A Summer Flight to the Oregon Coast.” The artists have each chosen an original piece of their artwork depicting birds. News from BLM on Loon Lake Causing Confusion and Financial Loss for Private Businesses

(LOON LAKE, OR) Recent news releases by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) about the status of their camping facilities at Loon Lake in the Oregon Coast Range remain confusing to the public. The entire Loon Lake, and Loon Lake Lodge and RV Resort and Loon Lake Watersports and Marina, not affiliated with the BLM, remain open. It is true that due to winter snowstorm damage, the BLM closed its campground and recreation facilities on the west end of Loon Lake for the 2019 season. However, inaccurate article headlines and television news reports relating to the BLM press release have not been corrected, further compounding the public confusion. Also, social media comments continue to state the inaccurate news reports. Oregon’s Coastal Playground Gets New Summer Bus Service!

As of May, and continuing through September of 2019, Florence-area visitors and residents have a new option to see one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in America. The Florence-Yachats Connector Bus Service shuttles passengers between these two fun destinations so passengers can relax and take in the awe-inspiring ocean, lake, and forest views—for just $5 for a day pass, or $2.50 for a one-way pass. Service includes two round-trips per day, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:35 p.m. except holidays. The bus picks-up and drops-off at Grocery Outlet in Florence, makes one mid-route stop at Carl G. Washburne State Park, and makes its turn at 3rd and Pontiac (Historic Log Church) in Yachats.
