Each year, Florence Area Chamber of Commerce members meet to celebrate the most notable and influential business leaders and volunteers in the Florence, Oregon community at the Siuslaw Business Awards banquet. The 2015 awards – presented at the Florence Events Center on Wednesday, January 20th – again filled the room with a capacity crowd as the year’s winners were announced.
After a dinner catered by Homegrown Public House, Chamber President Jenna Bartlett began the night’s program by presenting Key 2015 Chamber moments. During her presentation, which described the Chamber’s positive momentum in several areas, Jenna surprised Cal Applebee, the Chamber’s Executive Director, with the year’s Distinguished Service Award as recognition for his five years of service to the Chamber. Cal is retiring from the position February 26th, 2016, and following presentations by Jenna, Mike Rose, Cindy Wobbe, and Lisa Walter-Sedlecek, Cal was given a warm standing ovation for a job well done.
The Business Award presentations followed, with the following winners for 2015:

Curb Appeal Award: Siuslaw River Bridge Interpretive Center
Excellence in Customer Service Award: Hoagland Properties
Innovation in Business Award: Sand Master Park
Non-Profit Achievement Award: Kiwanis Club of Florence
Stu Johnston Business of the Year Award: Gary Foglio Trucking
The program continued with the presentation of the Future First Citizen Award to Siuslaw High student, Hannah Bartlett before the evening concluded with Gayle Waiss named as the recipient of the coveted First Citizen Award for 2015.
