The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center, 290 Highway 101, features a different local art exhibit each month. Their November display of local artistry features the photography of Rodger Bennett.
“It’s an honor to have been chosen by the Chamber to hang my work in their lobby,” says Bennett. “I think that the Chamber’s monthly exhibits are a good offering of the Florence area’s arts community, and that gives credit to the Chamber, local artists, and the kinds of things that are unique to Florence. It also provides another attraction for locals and visitors alike to sample all the different kinds of arts and the artists behind them.”
“I believe that quality art makes people feel better and that certainly is a growing attraction to Florence in itself,” he adds.
Bennett’s exhibit includes nine self-framed prints. Several are printed on metal, a few are printed on foam board, and all are available to purchase after the exhibit ends in December. He says the selections represent accurate depictions of things that people find attractive, that nearly all are easily recognizable local scenes, and that only one is from an outside area.
“I won’t say which one. You’ll have to come see and discover that for yourself,” he teases.
Bennett has many years of shooting and processing still photos and remains obsessed with the fundamentals that make a great photograph: light, shadows, composition, and emotion. But to the question of his certificates or honors, he’ll only admit to “a few prizes and ribbons and lots of ooohs and aaaahhs.”
Bennett’s work includes what he enjoys most—Oregon landscapes, wildlife, art, action photography, individual and family portraits, and business/commercial photography.
“The exhibit is pretty typical of my studio in Old Town, although there are no portraits on display. I really enjoy making portraits that people like,” he adds. “The studio is full of more photos…and many stories.”
Bennett’s studio is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 228-A Harbor Street in Florence. His phone number is 541-991-0777 and his website is PhotoByRodger.com.
“We are delighted to have Rodger’s work on display this month at the Chamber’s visitor center,” says Chamber executive director Bettina Hannigan. “The Chamber is listed in the local art tour listings because of our new monthly displays of photography, paintings, or three-dimensional art by local artists and galleries.”
In November, the Chamber’s visitors center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information about the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce, and how to join or volunteer, visit FlorenceChamber.com or call 541-997-3128.
