Centrally located on U.S. Highway 101, Florence is surrounded by some of the world’s largest dunes, 15 freshwater lakes, the Siuslaw River and one of America’s most dramatic coastlines.

Florence is accessible via Highway 101, the Oregon Coast Highway or Oregon Highway 126 from Eugene, Oregon's second largest city and home of the University of Oregon. A scenic 60 miles from Eugene to Florence, Highway 126 leaves the Willamette Valley and proceeds along the Siuslaw River, which flows through coastal mountains to Florence and then into the Pacific Ocean.

This popular diverse playground offers convenient access to a host of recreational activities and breathtaking scenery. Local businesses provide dune buggy tours, horseback rides, scenic flights and guided fishing trips {Pacific King Salmon.} You can also rent atv’s, sandboards, kayaks, surf boards, snorkeling gear, paddle boats, boogie boards, skim boards and much more. Our major Oregon Coast attractions such as Sea Lion Caves and Heceta Head Lighthouse are a short 20 minute drive north.

When playtime is over, relax in our Historic Old Town where you will find an abundance of locally owned restaurants, unique art, gift and clothing shops. Oregon Wine Country is just a short drive inland with {Lane County Wineries} between Florence and Eugene and the {Umpqua Valley Wineries} east of Reedsport.

The Florence area offers a variety of lodging and RV destinations, giving you a choice of staying on or near lakes, ocean, and the Siuslaw River in Old Town.

Florence Area Chamber of Commerce hosts annual events, including the Rhododendron Festival, which celebrated its Centennial Anniversary in May of 2007.
